The story
Kainer is Yaan Batho, a producer from Wigan. It started with Dub Frequency, a duo with Jay Robinson. Hervé discovered them and signed them to his Cheaper Thrills label. DJ Magazine gave their Whoop! Whoop! EP 8/10, Leeroy Thornhill of The Prodigy charted Guy Brutus, and Moby played Whoop! Whoop! at Ultra Music Festival in Miami.
Solo, he was Il Diablo. His first solo release came out on Ultra Records: a remix of Tommie Sunshine’s “Tokyo Pollution”. BBC Radio 1 played his single “Bunk”, and he remixed Major Lazer’s “Keep It Goin’ Louder”. He made big electro as Lard Boy Scout too.
In 2013 he became Kainer, with the Raven EP on Scream Monsters in May and the When It’s Cool EP on Bone Idle in July. Annie Nightingale played When It’s Cool on Radio 1. In 2016 and 2017 Dub Frequency made drum & bass for Spectre Audio, Fragmented Recordings and Samurai Bass Audio. In 2018 he made Lifeline with Colony. In 2022 he came back with the breaks single Step In.
